Links of Note & News of the Week that Passed!

03 Aug

Hey Guys and Girls, starting off a new feature here on the blog! 🙂 Well, not new, exactly, but a new way of doing things. 🙂 From now on, every Monday (instead of the usual once-a-month on the first of said month) I’ll be giving you guys a round-up of links and news of the preceding weeks – just in case we missed something. 🙂

I was getting a bit bored with the once-a-month thing and there was always news that popped up that I didn’t want to have to wait until the 1st of the following month to post -which invariably happened, thereby buggering up any schedule I was trying to get going! 🙂 So, once a week we’ll have a look back at (what I consider to be) that week (or those past weeks) most interesting news. 🙂

So, let’s get going!

First off, from A Dribble of Ink, some great casting news: Sean Bean is Eddard Stark! For that, and a whole bunch more, check out this link; also, Adian also gave us details on Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings. 🙂

From Author Paul S Kemp, details of his forthcoming Star Wars novel, Crosscurrent! 🙂 To wet your appetite, here’s the book’s cover:

Graeme reviewed a new Warhammer 40K book that I am dying to read – Cadian Blood! He also (finally) reviewed Jasper Kent’s Twelve (it’s about time!)! 🙂

David Anthony Durham was sent the completed cover of the new Wild Cards anthology, but none other than GRRM himself – in case you missed it, David will be writing a Wild Cards story for a forthcoming anthology, and yes, he’s got GRRMs email address too (and no, I haven’t been able to bribe David yet, but I’m trying!!). 🙂

Fantasy Book Critic had another amazing launch-into-the-month post: books of August 2009!

Awesome news from Michael Cobley – the sequel to Seeds of Earth, The Orphaned Worlds, is done! 🙂

Mark Chadbourn has contributed a short story to the Lou Anders superhero-anthology, With Great Power! 🙂

Karen Traviss reminded us that her second Gears of War novel, Jacinto’s Remnant, is about to be published (I for one can’t wait – Karen is incredible and you just know this book is going to be badass!)!

Karen Miller has finished Wizard Squared! 🙂

Over at My Favourite Books, Mark reviewed the entire The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, Liz finally read and reviewed A Madness of Angels (if you haven’t read it yet, read it! It’s incredible!), and they’re also hosting a giveaway of Nick Kyme’s Warhammer 40K book, Salamander! 🙂

Gav reviewed Chadbourn’s Lord of Silence,

Pat, the lucky bastard, finished reading and reviewed Steven Erikson’s Dust of Dreams! 🙂

Peter V Brett made me jealous when he mentioned meeting Milla Jovovich…. but I felt better after he explained that he met her while having a meeting with director Paul Anderson – the man who will be at the helm of the live-action The Painted Man / The Warded Man!

SFCrowsnest had 2 awesome trailers for us: Heroes Season 4, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 2!

Suvudu brought us pics of Death Troopers, a new addition to their free library, and the Entertainment Weekly cover featuring Iron Man 2! 🙂

The Book Swede reviewed a book that I sold to a customer last week – she said she was looking to catch up on the classic, must-reads… 🙂

Daya reviewed Beat the Reaper!

And the Wertzone – man, what can I say? Check out the whole blog – excellent news and features all the time! 🙂

Mark C Newton was interviewed over at Un:Bound! 🙂

Mark Chitty gave us another awesome post on SF books to look forward to this month,

And Orbit unveiled the newly redone cover of Jo Graham’s hand of Isis – I’m sorry, but Charmian is just a bit too sexy for my tastes.

Speaking of covers, check out the awesome cover (from Angry Robot) of Andy Remic’s forthcoming book:

Oh, and just to tease those who haven’t yet read this…
