SFF News!

13 Apr

Hey Guys and Girls, here’s wrap-up of the news I thought was interesting relating to SFF for the past week or two. 🙂

From Angry Robot, the awesome cover of Tim Waggoner’s Nekropolis was made public! It looks seriously good!

Hah! Wouldn’t want to meet that man in a flood-lit room never mind a dark alley! 🙂

Next up, two news books from Michael Crichton will be published, too; now, I hear you saying, Uhhh, the man passed away, didn’t he? Well, apparently Michael wrote a pirate thriller titled Pirate Latitudes (during the time he was writing Next), and notes and files were left behind for a sequel to Next.

Pirate Latitudes is an adventure story about piracy in the New World. Set in 1665, when Jamaica was a British colony holding out against Spanish dominance, the story centers on a plan hatched by the island’s governor and a notorious pirate called Hunter to raid a Spanish treasure galleon. Fast-moving and suspenseful, Pirate Latitudes is a historical classic from one of America’s best-loved authors.

I’m sure these books will be treated with the proper respect, but somehow, I can’t help wondering and worrying… Announcements seen on Suvudu and Michael Crichton’s website.

Next up, the unofficial Dust of Dreams blurb has appeared on Amazon! Here it is for your reading pleasure:

On the Letherii continent the exiled Malazan army commanded by Adjunct Tavore begins its march into the eastern Wastelands, to fight for an unknown cause against an enemy it has never seen. The fate awaiting the Bonehunters is one no soldier can prepare for, and one no mortal soul can withstand – the foe is uncertainty and the only weapon worth wielding is stubborn courage. In war everyone loses, and this brutal truth can be found in the eyes of every soldier in every world. Destinies are never simple. Truths are neither clear nor sharp. “The Tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen” are drawing to a close in a distant place, beneath indifferent skies, as the last great army of the Malazan Empire seeks a final battle in the name of redemption. Final questions remain to be answered: can one’s deeds be heroic when no one is there to see it? Can that which is unwitnessed forever change the world? The answers await the Bonehunters, beyond the Wastelands.

Man, I really need to catch up! I haven’t yet finished Reaper’s Gale and Toll the Hounds is only available here in SA in May, so I’ve still got some time to get caught up. 🙂

And finally, some really good news from The David Gemmell Legend Award – the short-listed novels have been chosen! Here they are for you:

ABERCROMBIE, Joe – Last Argument of Kings (Gollancz)

MARILLIER, Juliet – Heir to Sevenwaters (Tor UK)

SANDERSON, Brandon – The Hero of Ages (Tor US)

SAPOWSKI, Andrzej – Blood of Elves (Gollancz)

WEEKS, Brent – The Way of Shadows (Orbit)

Congratulations to those authors! 🙂 I would absolutely have loved to have seen Karen Miller and Peter V Brett, even Ian C Esslemont, on that list, but there’s always next year! 🙂

Okay, that’s it for now!

Be Fantastic!
