I guess I should introduce myself… :-)

29 Jul

Hi, my name is Dave, and I’m a – no, not an alcoholic. I’m a fan of fantasy and sci-fi, and this is what this blog will be all about!

I’m lucky enough to work in a bookshop, and I’m also lucky enough to receive the latest proof copies and advance reading copies of new sci-fi or fantasy books, and what I’ll be doing is reading, reviewing, and promoting these books. 🙂

I guess I should also say that this blog will also serve as a record for my own writing endeavours; I’m writing a fantasy novel at the moment, and as I progress, I’ll be posting that here. One day I’ll be able to look back and laugh myself silly at how small I started. 🙂

Anyway, another word of warning: I live in South Africa, so please be advised that we do not recieve the latest books as soon as the US or UK markets do, so please don’t be angry with me if you read a review of a book you’ve already read. 🙂

At the moment, I’m reading David Anthony Durham’s Acacia and I have to tell you, I am hugely impressed. It’s very seldom that I’ve read a book whose every page is so dense with imagery and emotion – the man’s third-person POVs are tight and beautiful, and the book is proving a joy to read (so says a major fan of Steven Erikson, R Scott Bakker and Robert Jordan). As soon as I’m done with the book, I’ll be posting my review.

So until then, cheers!

Dave
