Art from the Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World Graphic Novel
It’s been a while since I posted any news regarding the Dabel Brothers Wheel of Time projects, and even though this news has probably fired through the internets already, I’m reposting it again because it’s awesome.
It was posted by Dragonmount at this link.
Here we go:
Awesome stuff, right? I was remembering passages from the book as I gazed at the images – very nicely done!
Until next time,

Zoo City by Lauren Beukes – SA Cover Glory!
It’s official!
Lauren Beukes has let me know that I can go ahead and show you all the incredible cover of the South African edition of Zoo City!
The cover was done by the same awesome guy who did both covers for Moxyland (the Angry Robot cover and the SA cover, both below), and he also did the cover for Lauren’s first book, Maverick, Extraordinary Women from South Africa’s Past ; his name is Dale Halvorsen, AKA Joey Hifi, and you can check out the rest of his work at this website.
Okay, here’s the SA Moxyland cover (published by Jacana and available to order from Exclusive Books):
Here’s the Angry Robot cover for Moxyland, showing the four main characters in all their coolness:

Here’s John Picacio’s Zoo City cover, launched a couple of months ago on this blog:
And finally, here’s the awesome cover that will be gracing the shelves all over South Africa before you can get your jaw back to the proper position! (from May, SA & UK for those who need a date)
Isn’t that awesome!!?? I love the way that it’s totally black and white but vibrant and alive, too; it takes a different tack from the cover that John Picacio did for Lauren, but still manages to give readers a taste of what they can expect from Zoo City.
Beautiful stuff! Congrats on Lauren and Jacana for getting such a talented dude to do the cover!
Until tomorrow,
Be EPIC!
P.S. There will be launch events coming up for Zoo City, too; the book will be launched in both Cape Town and Joburg in May, as well as in London on in July – more detailed info will follow.
I’ll be there in Joburg!
John Jarrold’s Corner: Suzanne McLeod get’s another 3-Book deal!
This just in from John Jarrold:
“PRESS RELEASE – SECOND THREE-BOOK WORLD RIGHTS DEAL FOR URBAN FANTASY WRITER SUZANNE MCLEOD
Jo Fletcher, Gollancz’s Associate Publisher, has acquired World Rights in three more supernatural thrillers by Suzanne McLeod, for a decent five-figure sum in UK pounds. The agent was John Jarrold.
These books continue the Spellcrackers.com series set in London and star Genevieve Taylor, a Sidhe who runs into supernatural crime, dark romance and trouble at every turn. The provisional titles are THE SHIFTING PRICE OF PREY, THE HIDDEN RUNE OF IRON and THE SHARP BITE OF RITUAL.
Suzanne’s first two books have been sold to Germany and the US, and have received praise from the mainstream and genre press, as well as authors including international bestseller Charlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse vampire novels now produced for TV as TRUE BLOOD. Suzanne lives on the South Coast of England, with her husband and dogs.”
Like I told John, I haven’t yet read any of Suzanne’s novels, but since I’m becoming a huge fan of Urban Fantasy (thanks to Kate Griffin’s A Madness of Angels), I’ll be getting into them soon.
Congrats to Suzanne, John and Gollancz!

Launch Day – Thirteen Years Later by Jasper Kent
When you walk into your favourite bookstore in the UK, THIS should be on the shelves; Jasper Kent‘s latest novel!
That’s right, the sequel to the excellent Twelve, the second book in the Danilov Quintet, is officially available today!
Here’s some info about the book:
“As the name suggests, the story picks up in 1825, with Aleksei now a colonel and his son, Dmitry, about to leave home. But even Dmitry cannot escape his father’s past.”
Hopefully I’ll be getting my paws on the book soon, and I promise to have a review for you shortly thereafter (looking forward to it like you won’t believe!). If you’d like to order the book online, click here for Amazon UK.
Here’s a video for you, too, with Jasper talking about Thirteen Years Later (courtesy of John Jarrold):
And don’t forget, the book that started it all, Twelve, is up against a contender in the Fourth Annual BSC Review Book Tournament! You have until 8PM tonight to vote for Twelve and ensure that it makes it through to the next round!
Be EPIC!
DON’T Read Thirteen Years Later by Jasper Kent!
Why? Well, for a very good reason.
You see, BSC is running the Fourth Annual BSC Review Book Tournament, and Jasper‘s excellent debut, Twelve (reviewed here) is up against Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins for votes; the books are matched up against each other, and are voted upon, with the winner making it to the next round.
(You thought I was going to suddenly viciously turn on Twelve and Jasper, didn’t you?
)
Voting begins on the morning of March 18 and closes at 8PM EST (midnight GMT) – that means that you need to get your votes in ASAP!
And it goes without saying that I’ll be voting for Twelve.
And when you’ve voted, go out and pick up your copy of Thirteen Years Later (which is being released, incidentaly, tomorrow!).
I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy, and as soon as I do I’ll have a review for you (well, a couple of hours later, that is).
Be sure to get your votes in!
Be EPIC!
LunaCon, Supernatural and The Reluctant Mage
Hey everyone, I hope you’ve all been well and reading awesome book!
I thought I’d poke my head in and spread some news about various things.
First up, Peter V Brett, Chris Evans, Jonathan Maberry and plenty of other authors will be at LunaCon 2010, New York’s oldest SFF Convention.
Check out Pete’s post for details: LunaCon 2010. It’s coming up this weekend, so there’s plenty of time to get your schedules changed, modified, etc to attend.
Next up, Karen Miller offers her thoughts on Supernatural Season 5 – quite a lacklustre season, in my opinion, but Karen is much more eloquent about these things than I am.
Karen has also showed off the Aus-cover to The Reluctant Mage, which I have stolen for your viewing pleasure.
The cover art was done by Greg Bridges.
As always, and until the next post,
Be EPIC!

Transworld acquires novels from Heroes creator Tim Kring
I consider this to be cool news.
I’ve not yet watched the last season of Heroes (still planning to, ye naysayers!), but I’ll definitely be reading Shift when it’s released!
Here’s the news, from the press-release:
“Transworld Publishers are pleased to announce the acquisition of a trilogy of novels by Tim Kring and Dale Peck. Kring is best-known as the creator of the hit TV series, Heroes, which is regularly watched by 3-4 million viewers per episode.
Simon Thorogood and Simon Taylor jointly acquired the series of novels from Kring’s US publisher, Crown. The first novel introduces Chandler Forrestal, a man whose life is changed forever when he is unwittingly dragged into a CIA mind-control experiment. After being given a massive does of LSD, Chandler develops a frightening array of mental powers.
Simon Thorogood described the series as ‘having all the elements that make Heroes such a success – intelligent plotting, great characterisation and must-know-what-happens suspense.’ Simon Taylor added that ‘the finished novel more than delivers on the tantalizing promise of this project which we first heard about a couple of years ago.’
The first in the series, Shift, will be published by Bantam Press in January 2011.”
What do you all think? Good idea? Cool premise?
Be EPIC!
P.S. Thanks to The Mad Hatter for the Amazon link and the cover.
Launch Day – A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire
Ladies and Gents, Tobey Daye is back!
A Local Habitation is the second book in the October Daye series from Seanan McGuire, featuring October ‘Tobey’ Daye, one of the most interesting characters in fiction, not to mention Urban Fantasy.
I was lucky enough to have received the first Tobey Daye novel, Rosemary and Rue (reviewed here) from Seanan
and yesterday my copy of A Local Habitation arrived (also from Seanan) so I’ll be reviewing it soon.
Why read Rosemary and Rue, and A Local Habitation? Tobey is such a cool character (being a Changling and a Private Investigator-type), for one, and the world that she reveals to us (San Fransisco and the worlds of the Fae) is fantastically realized! If you’re looking for an excellent mystery, very cool magic, fantastic creatures and a heroine to admire and cheer, then A Local Habitation and Seanan McGuire is just the thing for you!
Order your copies here, and for those in the UK, the book will be available on the 8th of April, so pre-order your copies here.
For those of you in South Africa, head over to your closest Exclusive Books and, if they’re struggling to find the book to order it, give them this info: ISBN 978075640596 and tell them they can order it from Ingrams.
Here are the details for Rosemary and Rue for you, too: ISBN 9780756405717 also from Ingrams.
For those lucky enough to be in the US, Seanan will be touring to promote the book, so head over to her website and check out where she’ll be appearing.
A Local Habitation will be followed up with An Artificial Night in September of this year (2010 already, in case you’re a bit behind
), and here’s the great cover (all three covers have been done by Chris McGrath – I hope he does them all!
):
Congrats to Seanan on Launch Day!
Be EPIC!
Launch Day – Spellwright by Blake Charlton
It’s officially available right now!
So, if you’re in the US, get to your nearest, favorite book shop and get your copy!
I’m reading it at the moment, and it’s awesome so far – the magic system is incredible, but not at the expense of the characters and plot; really awesome stuff!
To order your copies, click here for Amazon US and head on over to Blake’s website while you’re at it if you want to heard audio extracts of Spellwright (very cool by the way!).
Congrats to Blake! May this be the start of HUGE things!
Be EPIC!
